This good quality antique oak desk from the mid 19th century was originally supplied by the London firm 'S & H Jewells' 29 - 31 Little Queens Street, Holborn*.
This very attractive antique desk has a newly fitted burgundy leather writing surface with gilt and blind tooling. This is surrounded by a band of oak with thumb moulded edge and rounded corners.
The top is fitted with three drawers and each pedestal had three drawers. All drawers are made with mahogany linings, hand cut dovetail joints, and the original brass locks. The edges are trimmed with ogee mouldings and fitted with turned wooded knob pulls. The centre drawer is stencilled with the suppliers stamp mark.
The pedestal drawers are graduated in size and have rounded corners to the front of the desk and concealed castors beneath the plinth bases.
As with all antique pedestal desks it is made in three sections for ease of movement and installation.
