Edwardian Inlaid Mahogany Carlton House Desk
Item Code: S27-790A
A fine Edwardian inlaid mahogany Carlton House desk, beautifully proportioned and richly decorated throughout with satinwood, boxwood and floral marquetry inlay. The desk features the classic raised superstructure associated with Carlton House form, with twin curved compartments, small drawers, brass gallery rails and a shaped writing surface inset with a green tooled leather skiver.
The front is arranged with an elegant kneehole flanked by bow-fronted drawer sections, each decorated with flowing foliate inlay and fitted with small circular handles. The raised upper sections are particularly decorative, with urn, ribbon and floral marquetry motifs to the fall fronts, giving the piece a refined late Georgian revival appearance typical of high-quality Edwardian cabinetmaking.
Standing on slender square tapering legs with brass caps and castors, this desk has a light and elegant profile while still offering practical storage. The brass galleries, leather writing surface, marquetry decoration and polished mahogany finish combine to create a highly decorative statement piece suitable for a study, drawing room, library or refined office interior.
