Circa 1870, exhibition quality Victorian oak four door cabinet bookcase in the classical style. The stylish Georgian style cornice has a broken pediment with carved flower heads in the centre and carvings of swags, over a stylish moulding and a convex frieze which is profusely carved with foliate. Beneath this are four glazed doors, all with turned capitals and fluted elegant columns which run down the front. There are four adjustable shelves on either side and in the centre are three adjustable shelves. The centre section has shorter doors and beneath this is an aperture with a bevelled mirror at the back. On the base are four further doors, the centre with geometric panels and foliate carving in the middle. The outer doors have rectangular panels and a classic carving in the centre of urns and flower heads. The pilasters have flattened capitals and fielded panel sections. The gables on the base also have fielded panels. Beneath the four doors is an ogee moulding, a shallow apron and stylish bracket feet. Excellent colour and condition.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
