Circa 1870. An exhibition quality, mid Victorian mahogany three-part pedestal desk. The rectangular top with broad cross-banding and recently re-leathered surface with blind tooling and gilding, the top has an Ogee moulded fore-edge, configuration on the front is of one long drawer with leather covered writing slide, flanked by two smaller drawers. Each of the drawers has a pair of turned knob handles, the pedestals have a bank of three graduating drawers, polished on all sides making it free standing. Beneath the bottom drawer there is further mouldings and the whole piece has an enclosed mahogany plinth with squat bun feet beneath. Leather work by ‘Roy Kirby of London’.
