Circa 1820, George III and later mahogany inlaid bureau bookcase. The top has an architectural pediment with foliate panels left and right and a diamond satinwood and ebony inlaid cornice. Below this are two doors with raised marquetry panels, with inlaid musical instruments, swags and bell drops. The doors also have deep satinwood beading, ebony banding and string inlay. The doors open to reveal 3 adjustable shelves inside and at the base are 3 inlaid drawers with stylish gilt brass knob handles. The flap of the bureau is smothered in inlay with a large urn in the centre and all the classic Adams images, contained in satinwood banding similar to the doors. Inside are various pigeon holes and drawers, and a leather writing surface. The flap has a lock and working key. Below this is a configuration of two short over three long graduating drawers with stylish cast brass swan neck handles and satinwood banding. Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
