Circa 1920, rare exhibition quality walnut, oak and leather open bookcase by Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh. The rectangular shaped bookcase has a solid walnut top with a wonderful neat crossbanded edge. Beneath this is an ogee moulded edge and a small frieze. In the frieze are 3 drawers which are serpentine shaped and have leather facings with gilding and a turned knob with a sunburst back plate. Inside, the drawers have oak liners. Beneath this are 2 divisions, each one with 2 adjustable shelves. The dividers have a beaded facing and the centre divide is crossbanded. The back of the bookcase is solid oak with fielded panels. The ends of the bookcase are chamfered with a herringbone walnut inlay in the centre. The fore edge on each end is rounded and chamfered. Beneath the bottom shelf is a small stylish apron again with walnut and various panels. The whole piece stands on typical stylish Whytock & Reid feet at the front and a small out swept foot at the back. Wonderful colour and patination.

    Georgian Antiques

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
