Circa 1920, a neat sized mahogany four door breakfront bookcase by Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh. The breakfront section with its glazed arched cornice, open cornice and open carving in architectural style with Greek key styling and a carved foliate below. The doors have very elaborate stylish solid mahogany astragals with central motifs of wheat sheaves. The four facings are carved with geometric design and flowers below. Below this the bookcase has four doors, again with carved fretwork on the four pilasters. The doors are quarter veneered mahogany with central motif carvings. There is a small shaped skirt and the bookcase stands on 6 elaborately carved feet. All the locks are by R.Langebear of Birmingham, and inside are mahogany faced shelves which are adjustable. The back is panelled in stained pine. The bookcase breaks down into 5 pieces to make it easy for movement. This is an exhibition quality piece of furniture by Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh. Colour and patination are absolutely perfect.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
