Circa 1860, neat sized Scottish 3 tier whatnot. The top with its three quarter wrap around open fretwork gallery of rich colour and patination. There are 3 mahogany shelves with polished fore edges, held in place by 4 turned and tapering columns. There is a small beading at the base of each of the shelves. Beneath the bottom shelf there is one full length drawer with mahogany knob handles. Inside the drawer there is a makers trade label for William Deacon, Cabinet Maker, Upholsterer & Undertaker, Melrose. This is unusual to get trade labels on furniture and it is good to have a piece of documented Scottish furniture. The whole pieces stands on four bulbous turned legs which finish with a brass cup and a brass castor. The whatnot is polished on all sides making it free standing. Great colour and patination.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
