Circa 1860. An exhibition quality early Victorian walnut and English marquetry free standing library table, probably by ‘Gillows of Lancaster’. The top with various patterns of walnut laid out symmetrically, with a broad banding which is smothered in the finest marquetry, a simple moulded fore edge, the frieze with two full length drawers in floral marquetry, in each corner there is a carved flower head with a downward facing finial beneath, the table rests on a pair of trestle ends with a combination of turned and carved columns and a marquetry section in the center. The legs are braced by an elegant shaped and carved stretcher, all resting on four phenomenal carved feet which includes foliate carving, scrolling on the knees and finishing on a realistic hairy paw foot.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
