Circa 1850, Chinese burr wood and camphor lined kist or trunk. With fielded panel in the centre in shape of a butterfly, with burr wood inlay and smaller butterflies in burr wood to the sides. Cast brass lifting handles are to the sides, and there is burr banding to the front and sides, with large sunflower shaped escutcheon where the original lock has been removed, but back plate left in place. The hinged lid opens to reveal a camphor wood lined interior, and there is a retaining arm and struts to support the top. It is all lined in camphor wood, a feature on earlier Chinese kists.
