Here we have a beautiful and very early pine wardrobe, featuring its original hand-painted decoration dated 1808 across the top. Pieces like this were often given as marriage gifts, and the painted initials add to that sense of history and character.
The wardrobe has a wonderfully aged surface with lovely colour variation throughout. As you’d expect with something of this age, there are some marks and wear, particularly toward the lower sides where the paint has faded and cracked slightly. However, it’s all solid and could be carefully touched up if desired. The painted detail across the front remains especially attractive.
At the base are two drawers, both sliding smoothly. The doors hang on their original hinges and open almost fully, making access easy. Inside, there are currently two shelves which appear to be later additions and can simply be lifted out. There are also original pegs at the back, and a hanging rail can be fitted at the top if you’d like to use it as a wardrobe.
A new working lock has been fitted, and the original internal catch mechanism is still present. The piece is in very solid condition overall and will be fully checked over before delivery.
For transport, the wardrobe separates into two main sections, with the top lifting off the base. This should make it manageable for stair access in most homes.
