Circa 1890, a rare, exhibition quality oak 5 door glazed cabinet bookcase. The classical pediment has break front sections on the front, and a dentil detail beneath this. The frieze has the names of 5 famous British authors: Shakespeare, Scott, Wordsworth, Burns and Coleridge. Beneath this are 5 oak frame, glazed doors with leaded glass with various oval and geometric shapes. An oak beading is towards the base of each door and to the inside are brass rails, tied to the glass for extra strength. With carved pilasters either side of the doors with reeded section at the top and carved sections at the bottom. The middle door has 2 pilasters with Corinthian capitals, fluted and reeded sections beneath with foliate carving and further carving. Inside each door are 3 adjustable shelves which are faced in oak, with shelving to the top and the base (approx. 17 metres of linear shelf space). Beneath the doors is a flat section with a neat moulded edge, with panelled sections to the side. The base has 5 drawers each profusely carved with a cast brass handle in the centre, which are each separated by a panelled pilaster with an oval section in the centre. Beneath are 5 doors, each with cushion shaped sections and fielded panels with a quarter sawn oak panel in the centre, opening to a single shelf. All standing on an enclosed plinth with moulded edge with further detail to the base of each of the pilasters.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
