Circa 1880, quality late Victorian oak open bookcase. The top section with its raised arch in the centre over a carved heraldic shield with a foliate carving on each side. Beneath this are 3 open sections, each separated by a flat pilaster with reeding from top to bottom and a small stylish carved top section. Each section has 3 adjustable shelves. The shelf fronts are in oak and have a slight chamfering and a ribbed section on them too. Beneath the top there is a small raised area and a flat section. At the base there are 3 panelled doors, with a circular carved roundel in the centre. Again they are separated with reeded pilasters following the same lines as those on the top. Each of the cupboards at the base has a single shelf inside. Below this is an ogee moulded edge and the whole piece stands on an enclosed plinth. The bookcase is a good colour, clean, sturdy and functional.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
