Circa 1890, very stylish George I style walnut bergere chair. The high back has central carved shell over a walnut splat and bergere panels either side. The drop in seat has been newly recovered in a gold silk velour, and the seat is shaped on the front and sides. Beneath this is a deep apron with concave carved shell. The chair stands on large carved cabriole legs at the front with foliate quarter brackets and shell knees, finishing on realistic ball and claw feet and simple outswept cabriole back legs. These are united with turned stretchers at the back and sides and a foliate carved shaped front stretcher.
