...........................................................................Description: (CIRCA 1640) EXCEPTIONAL ORIGINAL CHARLES I OAK & PARQUETRY INLAID COFFER CHEST(Please note: This piece was photographed in a 16th Century building with extremely uneven floors so the small yellow block which can be seen beneath one of the Style feet on the left hand side was placed there to merely straighten up the piece for the images and not because the piece sits uneven or wonky!)
This magnificent Grand Period Charles I Coffer is totally original and is of a truly outstanding rich Oak patination and colouration.The piece is embellished with fabulous Parquetry inlay throughout most of the front fascia which is set within beautifully deep recessed panels that are surrounded in stunningly carved gadrooning, the sides of the piece of which are also twin panelled.This 17th Century Coffer is totally original throughout and still retains the marvelous huge hinges, period Lock & lock Escutcheon (minus a key and the latch within the lid)) The whole being raised upon original style feet with conforming gadrooning edges.This is a brilliant investment piece and will guarantee to be the main talking point of any room in which you choose to place it.
