Circa 1740, original George I figured walnut bureau. The rectangular top in mirror matched figured walnut with herringbone banding above a flap with moulded rim, herringbone banding, panels of figured and oyster cut walnut, and original brass escutcheon. This opens to an oak- and walnut-lined interior with arched pigeonholes, drawers and slides, and with sliding “well” at its base. The deep frieze with lopers is over a moulded waist and 2 short and 2 long graduated drawers. These have their original fret brass handles and escutcheons, and back to front oak liners. All over a thumb moulded base and shaped bracket feet.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
