Circa 1870, rare, exhibition quality French marble top commode, stamped G. Durand. With heavy pink variegated marble top, tea caddy ogee moulded edge, above a serpentine cabinet with cast brass and ormolu mounts throughout. The large doors have marquetry panels surrounded by trellis parquetry, and elaborate escutcheons. Opening to solid oak, adjustable shelves with kingwood banding, and the inside of the doors have kingwood and parquetry finishing. A brass beading is to the base above a shaped frieze, standing on squat cabriole legs on ormolu sabots. The Durand stamp is beneath the marble top and to the frame.
