Circa 1890, very unusual Aesthetic Movement mahogany two door wardrobe. The top with its simple shaped moulded cornice. The fore edge of the cornice has a slight geometric pattern in it using the timbers in different grains. At the front there are two panelled doors, with oval panels on the top, rectangular panels at the bottom with matching flame mahogany veneers and various geometric and inlaid panels. The quality of the doors is superb with large thick solid mahogany. The hardware is very stylish with a scrolling handle on a rectangular escutcheon with proud brass round head screws and a working key. Unusually, when the doors open there is a cut out for a flat section between the two doors and also left and right of the door. Inside the wardrobe on the right hand side there is hanging and drawers in the base. The left hand side is hanging, with a mirror on the inside of the door. Beneath the two doors there is an ogee moulding and two drawers with stylish swan neck handles with a rectangular back plate, and an inlaid panel in the centre. All standing on an enclosed plinth which is rounded at the front and flat at the sides. The wardrobe has fielded panel back. Excellent colour and wonderful quality.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
