This is a very fine quality mahogany chest of drawers.
It has a carved Chippendale blind fret cornice and very fine fluted colums down each side.
The four feet are all original and it is NOT the top of a chest on chest. It is probably a Lancastrian chest and could possibly be a Gillows item but there is nothing to prove that, although the quality of craftsmanship and the wood used is typical of items from that maker.
The gilded brass handles are of very fine quality.
All the drawers are oak lined with hand dovetailed joints.
There is no key but all the locks are present.
The right hand side has a very narrow crack approx 20 cms long.
This excellent chest dates from around 1760s.
