Victorian Burr Walnut Games / Work Table
    Item Code: S27-27A
    Circa: 1860
A fine Victorian burr walnut games table, beautifully constructed and richly figured throughout. The shaped rectangular top opens to reveal a fitted interior incorporating a chessboard to one side and a backgammon board to the other, with inlaid counters and scoring details. Beneath, a pleated upholstered fabric basket provides storage for gaming pieces, typical of quality mid-Victorian examples.
The table is raised on elegant turned and carved supports united by a turned stretcher, terminating in carved scroll feet fitted with castors. The burr walnut displays excellent colour and depth, with a warm, well-developed patina. A highly decorative and practical piece, equally suited as a statement occasional table or for use as a traditional games table.
