Circa 1810, Regency mahogany roll top cylinder bureau, in the style of Gillows of Lancaster. The top has an ebonised fore edge, and below this is a large D shaped tambour fronted roll top with lifting handle in the centre. This retracts to show a fitted interior with drawers with axe head drop handles and pigeon holes, as well as a pull out writing surface with a green leather skiver. This is hinged and opens to reveal a shallow storage area and a ratchet arm for locking the writing surface into position in various heights. Below this, is a combination of one long drawer and four further graduating drawers either side with the original swan neck brass handles and ebony inlay. At the sides are pull out slides and a simulated drawer framed similar to those at the front and with a brass lifting handle and escutcheon. Below the pull out sides are two panels stylised in ebony inlay with canted corners. The back of the bureau is polished and has simulated drawers also. All the drawers are oak lined and the quality of cabinet making is superb. Wonderful piece of Regency furniture.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
