Circa 1890, good pair of mahogany desk chairs. The chairs have a concave back with an arched rail and open spar back, almost in the form of a fan. From this protrudes a turned arm with an extended area for the elbows, following the shape of the seat. Below this is a secondary stretcher in the same form, held in position by a turned upright with a rounded top. The seats are scooped out of the solid and have a wonderful shape and colour. All standing on turned tapering legs at the front, finishing on raised toes, and shaped back legs. These are united by a wonderful curved stretcher at the front held in place by two turned sections fixed to the back legs. The chairs are in the style of Shoolbred of London. Clean, sturdy and functional.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
