Circa 1840. A stylish mahogany cabinet maker’s kist/trunk. The solid top with simple moulded fore-edge, opens to reveal a partially fitted interior. The front has an elegant brass escutcheon on a raised moulded panel which runs around the entire kist, the sides with pair of cast brass, swan-neck lifting handles with simple back plates. Dovetails are visible on fore-edge and sides, resting on an enclosed moulded, mahogany plinth. It has great colour and patination and would make an excellent coffee table.
