Circa 1800, late George III mahogany oval Pembroke table. The solid mahogany top has 2 oval drop leafs, held in position by mahogany arms which are tucked into the underside of the table. The back end has string ebony and boxwood inlay, and at the other end there is a single mahogany lined drawer. The drawer has a stylish heraldic style escutcheon, cock beaded fore edges and very unusual gilt brass and enamel handles. The gilt brass handles are held in place by a screw at the back and the oval panel with the enamel is fixed onto the drawer front separately. It has a brass bezel and is very stylish with flowers and swags. The whole piece stands on 4 elegant square tapering legs. The top of the legs have a classic inverted arch inlay which occurs on some Edinburgh furniture. As the legs taper and finish there is a brass cup and the whole piece stands on squat brass castors. The table has been re-polished and is clean. It has a wonderful presence and very interesting style.
