Circa 1900, unusual French kidney shaped tall chest. The top with its red variegated marble has a three quarter wrap around gallery with open pierce work and a heavy top rail. The marble is contained in a brass bezel with a ribbed fore. The sides and the back of the chest are smothered in geometric parquetry made in various woods such as walnut and kingwood, which is framed with string inlay. At the front there is a configuration of 5 bow fronted drawers which are framed the same as the gables with satinwood framing and parquetry throughout. There is a very stylish escutcheon in the form of a circle with a swag and ribbons around it. Left and right there is a pair of cast handles again with ribbons on each end and a small swan curved handle with a cross over and foliate casting on it. Beneath the bottom drawer there is a small shaped apron with an ormolu mount in the Rococo style. On either side of the drawers there are shallow pilasters with ormolu mounts. The pilasters run down the front and at the end kick out and form the legs. The front legs are chamfered at the front and the back and finish with stylish carved sabots. The back legs are similar but without the sabots. The whole piece is clean, stylish and neat.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
