Circa 1910, carved oak monk's bench. The solid oak top has a moulded edge on the outside and a lovely foliate carved border. The top is held in place by the uprights and on the inside there is further carving to the centre. The arms are held in position by 4 turned columns. The solid oak seat is hinged and opens to reveal storage inside. There is a loose cushion also. The front of the bench has carving down the facing on both sides and there is a large central fielded panel with a carved gargoyle face in the centre with foliate carving coming from the head and scrolling across the whole panel. The bench is mellow in colour, clean and sturdy.
