Circa 1910, very unusual walnut low side table in the Chinese taste by Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh. The table has a solid walnut top with raised and curved ends. Below the top is a long simple frieze, and beneath this are 2 drawers with Chinese style brass handles, raised walnut beadings and a proud brass escutcheon. The top drawer is stamped Whytock & Reid Edinburgh and has the standard Whytock & Reid locks of Lamberg & Co Birmingham. The drawers are solid mahogany. Below the top is a simple apron which has a slight canting and a Chinese carved design on each end. There are brackets where the top overlaps, again with a Chinese style carving on both the front and back. The trestle legs of the table are framed in the Chinese taste. The table is polished on all sides and is freestanding. Very unusual to find a piece of furniture of this style made by an Edinburgh company and stamped. Very elegant and desirable size.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
