Circa 1900, good ash chest of drawers by Whytock & Reid of Edinburgh after a design by Sir Robert Lorimer. The solid ash top with the selected grain running the length of the chest and a rounded fore edge. Beneath the top there is a configuration of 2 short over 3 further graduating drawers. The solid drawer fronts have a chamfered mitred corner and a raised flat centre, and a cut out for the escutcheon. The simple cast brass handles have a decorative back plate with a classical urn and a pull ring with acanthus leaves on it. The drawers have solid liners throughout. Beneath the bottom drawer there is a slightly rounded moulding and the whole chest stands on simple low bracket feet. The chest has been re-polished, and is excellent condition.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
