Circa 1870, a mid-Victorian walnut and burr walnut 5 drawer writing table or library table. The table has a rectangular top and is square at the back and round at the front. The table is banded in burr walnut and has a red leather tule and gilded leather insert. The front has 1 narrow long drawer and to the left and right of this are 2 drawers above each other. The drawers have original carved Victorian knob handles and the drawer fronts are burr walnut. The drawers are lined in ash, indicating that the table is Scottish. There are 2 well carved quarter brackets with foliate carving beneath the centre. Beneath this is a scrolling beading that runs from one end to the other. The gables of the desk and the back are veneer and burr walnut. The table stands on 4 turned and tapering legs, that finish on a bulbous section and finely cast bezel with brown porcelain castor.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
