Circa 1890, late Victorian mahogany pedestal desk. With a green leather insert which is tooled and gilded in the mahogany top, and the back is polished so it is free standing. A half moulding runs around the top, with a tapering pattern of quilling beneath it and a configuration of 1 long drawer and 2 shorter drawers. The drawers have a reeded section between each of them, and cast brass handles with back plate and cast lifting handle. The pedestals have 3 graduating drawers with the same cast brass handles and a half round ogee moulding. The desk stands on 4 unusual bell-shaped, turned feet with a brass and white porcelain castor inside.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
