Circa 1870, Victorian burr walnut and inlaid davenport desk of unusual design. The top section has a wonderful pierced three quarter gallery. The flat surface has burr walnut veneers and boxwood and ebony inlay. Beneath this are two doors with stylish inlaid panels, which open to reveal an interior with various pigeon holes and drawers in boxwood. Below this the flat surface again has inlaid burr walnut and a long single drawer with carved handles. This opens to reveal a leathered writing surface with a pen slide. The base has a large inlaid door which opens to reveal shelves for sheet music. The gables are also inlaid with boxwood string inlay, and the back is finished so it can be a freestanding piece. The colour and condition is wonderful.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
