Circa 1870, unusual Victorian burr walnut inlaid breakfast table. The top has canted corners, wonderful selected veneers and a central section which is inlaid with ebony, boxwood and burr walnut in a stylish foliate design which follows the shape of the table. There is a large border which is also inlaid, further crossbanding on the edge and the fore edge is canted. Beneath this is a burr walnut apron with string inlay and ebonised inlay. The quality of the piece can be seen when the table is open with all the screw holes at the back plugged with a lovely shaped button. The table has a snap top action which is brass. Beneath the block are 4 turned fluted and carved columns and in the centre of this is a convex disc with a central finial. This stands on 4 further splayed feet with inlay similar to the top and finishing on carved toes on brass and porcelain castors. The whole piece is very sturdy and functional and could sit four people comfortably.
