Circa 1830, set of 4 William IV chairs. These chairs are in the style of William Henry Playfair.*
These quarter sawn oak chairs have a shaped deep splat back. At the top of the rail there is a half round and very stylish shaping at the sides. The back is held in place by 2 uprights with carved foliate leaves at the top and these fold deeply in the insides. The uprights continue down and the chair has a stuffover seatpad. As the uprights continue down they form the back legs and are square, tapering and slightly out swept. There is a half round moulding on the sides and the front. The chair upholstery is attached to this. The chairs retain the original blocks underneath. The front legs are turned at the top and are faceted as they taper down towards another circular section and finish on a round turned toe. The chairs are very stylish and unusual.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
