Circa 1880, pair of large French walnut bedside cabinets. The square white variegated marble tops have rounded corners, above a moulded edge which contains and holds the top in position. There is a single drawer with walnut quarter banding and a very stylish brass knob handle with a flower head in the centre. At each side of the drawer is a canted corner with a walnut beading which runs down the entire front. Beneath the drawer is a stylish moulding which continues around the sides and back, and frames the drawer nicely. The cupboard below has a similar knob handle, and a fielded panel in the centre with quarter veneered walnut. Outside the panel, this veneering occurs again. The door opens to reveal an uninterrupted cupboard space. Beneath this is an ogee moulding similar to the one below the drawer. The whole piece stands on turned, fluted and tapering legs united by an undershelf at the base with a moulded edge and rounded corners. All standing on brass ring castors. The gables and back are polished, making the bedsides freestanding. They can also be used as lamp tables, or side tables. Excellent condition, good colour and sturdy.
