Circa 1890, very stylish pair of Chinese rosewood hall/side tables. The top has mitred corners and a central rectangular panel, and beneath this is a stylish carved apron with carvings almost in the form of waves on all sides. The apron is held in place by four elegant swept uprights, which continue down to become an unusual carved stretcher, with foliate carvings and a central motif of a Chinese symbol on the front and back. At the sides is a carving almost like a bat head in profile. The legs taper down to a shaped cross stretcher at the base, and stands on small cabriole feet.
