Circa 1900. A quality oak framed oat-straw Orkney chair probably by ’David Kirkness of Kirkwall.’ The shaped oak-straw back tied with and topped with marram grass, fixed to an oak frame. The drop in marram grass seat, flanked by a pair of simple arms with shaped terminals, supported on sturdy uprights. The chair rests on four square legs with a slight out-sweep embraced by conforming stretchers.
