Circa 1880, Louis XV style bombe shaped walnut and marquetry commode of generous proportions. The wonderful red and white variegated marble top is serpentine shaped with an ogee moulded edge. Beneath the top, there are two large drawers with crossbanding, floral marquetry, wonderful ormolu handles and stylish large Rococo escutcheons with a brass key. The drawers open to reveal solid oak liners within. The second drawer has a deep apron which is part of the drawer, and on this is a Rococo mount of foliate design. The gables have similar marquetry panels to the drawer fronts. The tops of the legs at the front have massive ormolu mounts which cover the fore edge entirely, and taper down in a foliate design to the tall and elegant swept legs, finishing on large ormolu sabots at the bottom. The casting on the mounts is great quality.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
