Circa 1890, late Victorian stained ash metamorphic library chair. With its crossover top rail, two uprights at the back and a further crossover stretcher splat towards the base. The solid seat has a rounded front and two primitive steel hinges at the top. There is a brass clasp at the sides, towards the bottom to lock the chair in position. When in the open position and folded over it forms 4 step library steps with the underside of the seat becoming the treads. The front of the chair when open is in the form of an A frame. The back is slightly curved and follows the form of the back legs and top rail.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
