Circa 1870, large Victorian camphor wood and brass bound travelling trunk. The wrap around brass banding on the top is held in place by small copper pins and further brackets on top of this. The lid with 4 hinges and 4 straps beneath the lid to make it sturdy is held in place by a bracket. Inside there is uninterrupted space. At the sides there are 2 pairs of metal lifting handles and the banding continues around the sides and the base. The front has an unusual combination with 2 brass sections in the centre which are guides to ensure the lid closes correctly, and a brass clasp left and right. The clasp on the right is missing. In the centre there is the original spring loaded lock. (There has been a key cut for this). The colour is mellow and the condition is very good.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
