Impressive Large Gothic Revival Breakfront Library Bookcase (19th Century)
Item Code: 1229
A magnificent and architecturally commanding 19th-century Gothic Revival breakfront bookcase, presenting a perfect union of ecclesiastical grandeur and stately refinement.
This substantial piece is arranged in three sections, with the central breakfront flanked by two shallower side bays. The upper display area features adjustable open shelving framed by dramatic spiral-carved clustered columns and pointed arched gallery details—striking hallmarks of the Gothic style. Behind the shelving, gathered silk panels offer a soft, luxurious contrast to the carved woodwork, lending a sense of delicacy and warmth.
The lower section comprises four glazed doors with exquisite gothic tracery, each backed with gathered silk to match the upper tier. These cupboards open to reveal generous storage, making the bookcase as practical as it is beautiful.
Carved floral roundels, moulded cornices, and shaped plinths further enhance the architectural form, giving this piece a distinguished and scholarly presence—ideal for a period study, refined home library, or elegant drawing room.
