Circa 1900, suite of Japanese furniture comprising a small occasional table and two chairs. The faded red lacquered top in the form of a flower. The outline of the stencilling can be seen. The side of the table is in the form of a table cloth and the base is the trunk of a tree entwined by the roots. It has been stained black. The chairs have an open fretwork carved back which has been gilded depicting a form of exotic bird and painted with rustic logs. The shaped seat is similar to that of the table top with red lacquer work which again has faded and outlined stencilling. The chairs under carriage again is made from roots of trees and is very rustic. Unusual small neat size suite of almost Oriental grotto furniture.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
