Circa 1820, George IV mahogany writing table/work box. The rectangular top has a concave moulded edge, over a pull out writing slide with a felt insert and cast brass axe head drop. When fully extended it is quite sturdy and could be used for a laptop or as a writing surface. Beneath this is a full length drawer with a simple escutcheon and original lock with key. Inside has had multiple divisions which have been removed, perhaps indicating that this was originally a sewing table. The whole piece stands on flat trestle ends, finishing on raised splayed feet united by turn cross stretchers. The top of the feet are ribbed and finish on a simple block with a carved roundel on top, terminating on brass tipped castors with white porcelain wheels.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from lighting to furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
