Circa 1770, George III mule chest. With brass-mounted quarter-columns at corners and a rectangular top with moulded edges in figured quarter-cut golden oak, which opens to an interior with the original candle box. The front with 4 arched, fielded panels is over two short and one long cross banded drawers with the original brass swan neck handles, brass escutcheons and back to front oak linings. All on a moulded base and original ogee bracket feet. Painted with the initials ‘A’ and ‘S’, it is possible this was a ‘marriage chest’.
