An interesting and now rare George II period bowfront corner cupboard circa 1730.
Height 92cm
This fine process known as 'bantum work' was a good attempt by the English to emulate the fine Chinese lacquer work of the 17th century.
These pieces are now rare due to the limits of the materials used and the general treatment and conditions they were kept in over three hundred years, some survive better than others, this particular one is reasonable. Many are stripped back to their oak base .Completely untouched in terms of restoration , original condition, . English oak carcass construction to the gesso and lacquer and gilt work.
