Circa 1860, early Victorian mahogany Wellington chest/desk. The piece has a rectangular top with a flat fore edge and half round moulding beneath it. The large drawer on the top opens to reveal a writing slope, which is hinged and can be tilted up. Behind this are various pigeon holes and a pen slide. The slide can be accessed via the side of the drawer. Beneath this, set back are four further drawers all with original locks and handles. On both sides are stylish turned and tapering columns, with ring turning at the top and base. All standing on an enclosed plinth. The chest has great colour and patination, and is very stylish. It is ash lined, indicating it could be Scottish.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
