Circa 1900, unusual carved oak, neat sized sofa with Indian or Burmese influences from Skibo Castle. It is profusely carved and has a reeded, foliate designed top rail above small uprights with flower heads. The curved, reeded arms are interlaced with foliate carving and it has removable crushed velour cushions above a padded seat in the same fabric. Standing on foliate carved, curved legs with scrolls to the top and finishing on bun feet. An inventory number is underneath the sofa and it was made for Skibo Castle, Dornoch, home of the steel magnate Andrew Carnegie. Carnegie purchased Skibo Castle in 1898, and undertook an expensive renovation of the whole property; it remained in the family until 1982 when it was sold to hotelier Peter de Savary. It is now a prestigious private club, see more at: https://www.carnegieclub.co.uk/index.html

    Georgian Antiques

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
