Circa 1880, unusual bovine clock gong combination. The clock has an enamelled face with Arabic numerals and a lovely casting in the centre of a small cherub. Outside this, is a stylish chaste and cast brass bezel and the whole piece is encased in brass. There is a surmount of a stylised urn and Rococo casting each side. On each side of the clock are two cow horns, which are held in place by a ribbed brass bezel. The back of the clock is encased in a circular disc with open brass castings again of a foliate design with small faces interlaced with foliate casting. Beneath the clock are two hooks which hold a rectangular brass gong in position. The beater itself is also made in cast brass with a slow twist and a snail shaped end at one side and a wooden beater at the other. The clock has been serviced and is working. A very unusual piece of zoomorphic furniture.

Georgian Antiques was founded in 1978 by John Dixon's brother Padriac in a small shop at Jocks Lodge, Meadowbank in Edinburgh, with John joining the business after finishing college in 1981. The business grew so rapidly, they couldn't keep up with their inventory needs. Their goal has been to create a one-stop-shop where designers can complete an entire project from antique lighting to antique furniture to accessories. Scotland's largest antiques warehouse is located in a converted whiskey bond in historic Leith Edinburgh. With 50,000sq ft over five floors we offer a wide range of quality Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian furniture, as well as continental and small decorative items. Our stock is constantly changing.
