antique victorian mahogany partners desk

This very attractive antique Victorian mahogany partners desk dates from the middle of the 19th century and is made from well figured timbers.

The desk is a very good size, 5 foot (152cm) wide by 3' 5 inches - (105cm) deep, with a black hide writing surface with gilt and blind tooling. The writing surface is surrounded by a 3 inch band of mahogany with a thumb molded edge and rounded corners. The top is fitted with 3 drawers to either side of the width. The pedestals are each fitted with three drawers to the front and cupboards to the reverse but it is currently shown with drawers and cupboard to both sides. The pedestals stand on plinth bases with hidden castors. The drawer fronts have ogee moldings to the edge with boldly turned mahogany pull knob handles. They have mahogany linings the original brass locks and are constructed with hand made dovetail joints.This is a good quality antique partners desk which would look very impressive in any study or office. The desk is made in three sections, the top and two separate pedestals, for ease of transportation and installation. Date: circa 1860Reference Number: SN520
