This is an antique art reference book. An English, illustrated catalogue of the Marquis of Stafford's private collection, dating to the Georgian period, published 1818.

Full Title: Engravings of the Most Noble, The Marquis of Stafford's Collections of Pictures in London, Arranged According to Schools and in Chronological Order with Remarks on Each Picture. By William John Otley.

A controversial figure in later life, the Marquis of Stafford, George Granville Leveson-Gower - 1st Duke of Sutherland (1758 - 1833) was a patron of the arts, landowner, politician, diplomat and at times, the richest man in Britain. As part of the Leveson-Gower family of nobility, George was related to Dukes and Earls across the nation. Educated in Westminster and at Christ Church, Oxford, the later Marquis of Stafford was the Member of Parliament for Newcastle-Under-Lyme from 1779 - 1784 and the county of Staffordshire from 1787 - 1799. He also held positions as an Ambassador to France during their revolutionary years and held various other posts until his passing.

    • A third volume representing the vast art collection of the Marquis of Stafford
    • Leather bound with gilt titling and detail - some historical wear present
    • Presented intact, with light ageing to pages commensurate with age
    • Organised as descriptions with the related engraving assigned a figure number
    • Part 1 featuring German, Flanders and Holland, with part 2 the Spanish, French and English Schools

This is a fascinating antique art collection, illustrated with superb engraved reproductions of the Marquis' art collection. A treat for those interested in art history of the Georgian period. Delivered ready to enjoy.
