A stunning pair of French Empire Style Fauteuils from the late 19th Century.
Made from red mahogany with gilt bronze mounts and ornamentation. Upholstered in a luxurious petrel green shot silk.
Made of top quality deep red mahogany which contrasts wonderfully with the gilt bronze decoration and green upholstery.
The back is upholstered, with a fascinating gilt bronze mount of two figures of Pan blowing pipes facing each other between the back and the lower rail.
The top rail has an bronze mount of an antique charioteer.
The arms have inlaid bronze stringing and are supported by the back spread wings of a stunning gilt bronze sphinx.
There are additional gilt bronze decorations on the front rail, front legs and lions claw feet.
These amazing chairs are in very good condition with only a few bumps and signs of wear. They look fantastic and are heavy, sturdy and comfortable. The decoration is superb and the overall effect stunning.
Made in the later part of the 19th Century in France when the original empire style was revived.
